Cape Town 7’s 2016, Betting Preview

The 2016/17 IRB World 7’s Series next round continues in Cape Town this weekend with the action getting going on Saturday the 10th of December.

The Blitzbokke showed they mean business this season when they kicked their campaign off with a win in the Dubai final against Fiji. Fiji were the defending Dubai, World Series and Olympics champions and the Blitzbokke succeeded in stifling them with determined defence. The 7’s series now moves to the Cape Town Stadium where the home side won the inaugural addition last year to go with 2 successive victories in Port Elizabeth.

Let’s look at the pools for the Cape Town 7’s.

Pool A

South Africa, Australia, USA, Russia

The home team should top the group and it could be an interesting battle for 2nd spot between the USA and Australia.

Pool B

Fiji, France, Kenya, Japan

Fiji look a cut above their opposition here but Kenya and France can cause upsets.

Pool C

England, New Zealand, Argentina, Canada

England were impressive in Dubai and I will take them to top this group leaving last season’s finalists Argentina in a battle with New Zealand who won 4 titles in SA from 2009 to 2012.

Pool D

Wales, Scotland, Samoa, Uganda

A comparatively weak but nonetheless competitive pool with Wales and Scotland both making the playoffs last week and Samoa showing enough in a tough group to suggest they could upset things for the 6 Nations representatives.

Suggested Bet: South Africa win at 11/10

They opened at 16/10 so there has been plenty of money for the Blitzbokke already. It is hard to argue that they are worthy favourites and I am still prepared to have a go at them at 11/10.
