While many South Africans are looking forward to the upcoming holiday season, some of us will be tuned in to Twitter as some of South Africa’s top swimmers will be competing at the 12th FINA Swimming World Championships in Doha, Qatar from the 3rd – 7th December 2014.

South Africa’s hopes lie with Chad le Clos in the freestyle and butterfly events and with Cameron van der Burg in the breastroke events. Both Le Clos and Van Der Burg are avid Twitter users and will be sharing their experiences from Doha on Twitter.

Le Clos dominated the short-course season with three gold medals at the first meet of the FINA Mastbank Swimming World Cup and won the series overall – he will be looking to continue this dominance. Le Clos is the current short-course World and Olympic champion in the 200m butterfly. He came close to breaking his own World Record earlier this season so he will be one to watch. You can follow Chad @chadleclos or become an official Chadette and join the fan club @the_chadettes

Cameron Van Der Burg, @cameranvdburg, who holds short course World Records in 50m and 100m breaststroke, will also be hoping to add to South Africa’s medal tally in Doha. He is the current 100m breaststroke Olympic Champion and the Commonwealth Champion in the 50m breaststroke.

The event promises to be filled with fast-paced action, be highly competitive and see numerous records smashed!

Morning heats start at 07h30 SA time with the various finals taking place at 16h00 SA time each day.
