THE Chevrolet Warriors are gearing themselves up for a scrap to the finish of the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge as they look to pull off an unlikely turnaround and qualify for the playoff.

The Warriors have won just one of their first five games, putting them 11 points behind third place, and captain, Colin Ingram, wants his side to recall some of their old fighting spirit when they take on the Chevrolet Knights at Buffalo Park in Friday’s televised game.

“We need to win five from five. I’ve been involved in this team for some time and it’s always been up for a good scrap,” said Ingram.

“Once you get a few wins going then you never know. We’ve got to go flat-out on Friday.”

While Craig Kieswetter has certainly played his part, hitting 167 runs in five innings at the top of the order, he has struggled for support with none of the other batsmen reaching three figures in the competition.

That was one of two areas that Ingram believes the Warriors need to improve.

“Our batting in the first six overs has been pretty poor – we’ve lost too many wickets – so if we can get a partnership going and get some momentum in the first six then that will go a long way,” he said.

“Then we’ve chatted a lot this week about our death bowling and the options we’ve been taking, so hopefully we can improve on that side as well.”

The Knights have enjoyed an excellent run in the tournament thus far, which coach Sarel Cilliers puts down to a few factors, one of which is overseas signing, Andre Russell.

“He gives us the balance that we’re looking for in that he extends the batting line-up so that we have Obus Pienaar batting at seven,” said Cilliers.

“The bowlers have also stuck to their guns, having learned a lot from the one-day competition, and I think our fielding has improved a lot over the past two months because we have quite a young side.”

The game gets underway at 6pm and will be shown live on SuperSport 2. Since the match is televised, fans attending can participate in the “Win Your Share of a Million competition” by taking a one-handed clean catch. This competition is open to anybody over the age of 18 and is for South African Citizens only. Full Terms and conditions for the competition can be found at www.cricket.co.za.
