NASHUA Cape Cobras coach Paul Adams is confident that his inexperienced spin attack can bounce back from a mauling in their first outing and make a telling contribution when they meet the Sunfoil Dolphins at Newlands in a RAM SLAM T20 clash where spin is likely to be key.

With Robin Peterson called up to the Proteas squad and Dane Piedt missing through injury, the Cobras are relying on young spin talents, Sybrand Engelbrecht and George Linde, as well as captain Justin Ontong to hold the fort.

However, the trio took a combined none for 80 in seven overs on Sunday, as the Cobras fell back on the seam talents of Kieron Pollard to dig them out of a hole and clinch a tight game against the Titans.

“I think the Wanderers is generally a tough ground for the spinners to bowl. The ball tends to skid on and it’s a good surface, so I’m not too concerned,” said Adams.

“We’ve got a young spinner in Linde so it’s important that we just keep building his confidence and keep growing him. We’ll see them come more into the game from Friday at Newlands, where generally there’s more on offer for the spinners.”

While the Cobras will assess the fitness of Rory Kleinveldt, Justin Kemp and Stiaan van Zyl ahead of the game, the Dolphins will assess the pitch before deciding whether to bring in Keshav Maharaj as a second spinner.

The Dolphins beat the Warriors with a bonus point on Wednesday night, but know that there is plenty of room for improvement after they dropped five catches and fell away with the ball towards the end of the match.

“We’re chasing a perfect game,” said captain Morne van Wyk. “It’s nice to see improvements in a lot of areas but one thing with a win like that is that confidence levels go sky-high, which creates even more belief.”
