The Bloemfontein side had built up a comfortable lead at tonight’s match, despite a strong finish from their rivals they closed the game out to go through to their second consecutive final. The opening exchanges were fierce, with neither side willing to give an inch early on, and it took three minutes before NWU-Pukke drew first blood through the reliable Chante Steyn.
The vocal home side got right behind their team who made the most of their attacking opportunities to open up a healthy early lead. NWU-Pukke found their feet and managed to get back within a goal of their hosts, but Kovsies would take a deserved 10-6 lead into the first break. Kovsies made the most of the first powerplay, and by the half-time break they had built up a 27-14 advantage over the visitors. The Potchefstroom side used their powerplay, but it backfired on them a bit as Denielle van der Merwe made them pay and restored a healthy 13-goal advantage. The defending champions were in complete control and went into the final break with a healthy 43-31 lead, leaving NWU-Pukke hoping for a miracle in the final quarter.
NWU-Pukke threw absolutely everything at the home side in the final stages of the match as they desperately tried to haul them in, but it was not to be as Kovsies held on for victory.

The Pretoria side will face defending champions Kovsies in the final next week after cruising to another comfortable victory. Both teams were determined to grab the early initiative, but the class of UP-Tuks on attack saw them build up a healthy lead. Maties fought hard and covered a lot of ground, but UP-Tuks were ruthlessly accurate and established a 15-10 lead by the end of the first quarter.
The Pretoria outfit were able to steal a few crucial centre passes, and made them count with some great finishing in front of goal.
Maties came out swinging as they tried desperately to keep UP-Tuks within striking distance, but the home side took their powerplay and managed to maintain their advantage as they took a 32-21 lead into the half-time break. It was more of the same in the second half as Maties battled away only to be thwarted by the disciplined UP-Tuks outfit. The hosts were ruthless in the third period and showed impressive defensive discipline to hold out against the desperate Cape side.Maties took the powerplay in a bid to work their way back into the match, but they could not stop UP-Tuks from bringing up their half-century and by the final break the lead was 54-34.
As hard as they fought, there was no way back for Maties as UP-Tuks continued their unbeaten march in the competition with just one hurdle left.
