The Mother City Marathon:

 

Cape Town is the proud and gracious hostess of one of the world’s most irresistible City Marathons.  Experience Africa’s beautiful Mother City as never before, as you rise to the heroic challenge of the most celebrated race – the classic Olympic distance of 42.2 km. 

 

This picturesque route takes you through the City of Cape Town and into the leafy Southern Suburbs, under the shadow of Devils Peak you will run past landmarks such as the pristine Liesbeek River, The Rondebosch Common, the Newlands Cricket ground, Groote Schuur and the University of Cape Town.

 

Turning back towards the City and under the majestic Table Mountain you venture into District Six and the City Centre of Cape Town. You will have the privilege to meander past some of the most Iconic Cape Town landmarks: the Castle of Good Hope, the Cape Town City Hall, the Houses of Parliament, the City Gardens, St Georges Cathedral, Green Market Square and the Nederduitse Kerk to mention but a few.

 

You will experience the vibe, smell the sea and hear the sounds of Cape Town along the Fanwalk and the Sea Point Beach Front. Experience the views of the Twelve Apostles, the Atlantic Ocean and Robben Island before you turn back toward the Mouille Point Lighthouse and the head towards the Cape Town Stadium. The marathon finishes under the majestic backdrop of Table Mountain at the Green Point A track.

 

Get into the spirit, bring your family and friends to the vibrant supporter zone to revel in the freedom of running and relish the food stalls, beer garden, EXPO, live music and fancy dress fun!

Physical description – Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Route:

 

Start in Somerset Road toward City, along into Riebeek, right into Bree, left into Strand, across Adderley into Newmarket Street, though Woodstock along Albert Rd, along Malta, Liesbeek Parkway, along till left into Park Rd, left into Campground Rd, right into Klipfontein Rd, around Rondebosch Common, right into Milner Rd, right into Park, left into Campground, into Palmyra, along Palmyra, right into Campground Rd, past Newlands Cricket, over railway line, right into Main Road, right into Letterstedt Rd at Newlands Pool, around into Sport Pienaar Rd (past Sports Science, into Boundary Rd (past Breweries), under subway to cross Main Rd, onto Main Rd

(with traffic)  along Main through Newlands, short cut past Rondebosch police station, back onto main road Rondebosch, Mowbray past Groote Schuur Hospital,

left into Russell Street, under highway, left into Keistzergracht, right into Christian Street, along Constitution, right into Tennant, over Tennant via walkway of CPUT, along walkway into Longmarket Street, right into Parade Street, left into Darling Street, past Castle and Grand Parade, left into St John’s Street, right into Mill Street, right into down Government Gardens into Adderley, left into Strand Street, left into Bree, loop at top of Bree and back down Bree street. Left into Waterkant Street, cross Buitengracht at fanwalk bridge – join fanwalk, cross Somerset Rd into Chiappini, left into Prestwick Street, right into Ebenezer, right into Somerset Rd, along Fan walk, under Helen Suzman on fanwalk, alongside of Helen Suzman/Somerset Road, right onto Glengariff Rd, left into beach road (against traffic roadway) all along Beach Road, at swimming pool turn onto promenade.  Follow the Promenade all the way back until hit Beach Rd, continue along Promenade past Mouille Point Lighthouse, to the end of the Promenade, turn right back along Beach Rd, left into Kiewietlaan – across Bay Rd, into Green Point Park, though park, follow path between Helen Suzman and athletics stadium, under fanwalk left into Granger Bay Blvd and right into Green Point A track to finish area – distance 42.2km.
