Adventure and outdoors enthusiasts got together on Saturday to enjoy nature and the sport of mountain biking in complete safety at the launch of the Tracker Ride Free Bike Park at Central Park Trails Modderfontein, in Gauteng. The event saw riders of all levels take to the trails to explore the newly upgraded facilities, giving rise to a safe new way for South Africans to enjoy the outdoors.
The launch of Tracker’s RideFree safe cycling initiative could not have come at a better time, as three petitions are currently in motion in SA to improve the safety of cyclists. As popular as cycling has become in the last few years, the subject of cycling safety has increasingly come into the spotlight. From insensitive motorists (and sometimes cyclists) to the escalating bicycle related crime, there is no doubt that a solution is needed, and soon.
Bronwynn Tippett, Chief Marketing Officer at Tracker and cycling enthusiast, explains, “This initiative is one we are very excited about. There is a big need to offer cyclists a safe alternative to being on our roads and RideFree is Tracker’s answer to the public’s call for safer cycling. Until we make our roads safer, bike parks such as the RideFree bike park at Modderfontein will provide enthusiasts of all levels the freedom to ride.”
Catering for all
The newly named, Tracker Ride Free Bike Park at Central Park Trails Modderfontein, caters to everyone, with four routes ranging from 10km fun rides for amateurs to the almost 50km of red trails to challenge the experts.
Bike Park owner, Ricky Tomaselli; “To see mountain bikers enjoying the trails with peace of mind is fantastic. With so many happy faces having enjoyed the entertainment and exercise in a fun-filled day, we are confident that we will go from strength to strength thanks to Tracker’s involvement.”
Saturday’s launch event saw experts from Concept Cyclery Cedar Square and Melrose Arch providing demo bikes, technical support to all riders and giving assistance on how to setup your bike, providing a preview for the introduction of the regular monthly skills clinics. Permanent first aid kits will be installed at strategic locations.
More plans in the pipeline
Tracker’s sponsorship of the Ride Free Bike Park at Central Park Trails Modderfontein is one of many safety-focused projects Tracker is planning. Looking after rider safety for the Pick n Pay Momentum Cape Argus Cycle Tour and the upcoming Absa Cape Epic, there is no doubting Tracker’s commitment to the mission of creating safer cycling and the freedom to ride.
