First full week of Super Rugby action, and it promises to be a Cracker! There are a lot of tough games to call this weekend, so let me get straight into it.
Crusaders vs Chiefs
This weekend kicks off with a mouth watering clash, as the defending champs travel to Christchurch to face the ‘slow starters’ of the tournament. Something is telling me though that this year is going to be different, and I see the Saders getting off to a winning start!
Prediction: Crusaders by 6
Cheetahs vs Bulls
Another toughie to finish off Friday’s action. Was the loss to Lions simply a blimp on the radar, or are Cheetahs in for a tough season? Were the Bulls outplayed by a superb Sharks side, or were they simply terrible? I am going to go with what many might consider an upset, and pick the Bulls in this one. They did enough against the Sharks to make me believe they will be too strong for this Cheetahs side, who might not be able to bounce back strongly after last weeks loss.
Prediction: Bulls by 1
Highlanders vs Blues
First of 5 games being played on Saturday, and I expect the Landers to bounce back strong from last season, starting here against the Blues. No real logic behind this pick other than my opinion on how Landers will do this season.
Prediction: Highlanders by 4
Brumbies vs Reds
I am expecting big things from the Reds this season, they are my favourites to top the Aussie conference, while the Brumbies on the other hand I think might struggle after losing Jake White, especially at the beginning of the season as they settle in with their new coach.
Prediction: Reds by 8
Sharks vs Hurricanes
Sharks to get another comfortable home win here, scoreline won’t be quite as one sided as vs Bulls, but I can’t see Canes giving them too much trouble in their opening match. Their style of play is very loose, and at the start of the season, they might not be as clinical as later on, so a see quite a few mistakes being made from the NZ outfit in this one.
Prediction: Sharks by 11
Lions vs Stormers
Lions are going to get brought back down to earth big time here. One sided affair for the full 80.
Prediction: Stormers by 16
Waratahs vs Western Force
Probably the least appealing of all the matches this weekend, it will be a real Aussie derby with Tahs winning it by 2 to 3 penalties.
Prediction: Waratahs by 9
Rebels will have to wait an extra week before they get their campaign underway, as they have the bye this weekend.
