Super Rugby Round 1 Preview

Another year of Super Rugby starts this weekend, and while the Southern Kings are not a part of this years tournament, this does give me a chance to have a better year of predicting.

Just two games to talk about this weekend so let’s get into it

Back where they belong, or way out of their league?

Cheetahs vs Lions

While I do think that rustiness will play a factor, I still predict a comfortable win for the cheetahs here to get their 2014 campaign off to a winning start as they try to replicate the type of season they had last year. For the Lions I see a tough tournament ahead, and now that SANZAR have scrapped the bye points, Lions are in for a single digit finish in my opinion.

Prediction: Cheetahs by 12

What were they thinking???

Sharks vs Bulls

Two teams at very different ends of the stick going into this years competition. With the dramatic loss of quality players, the Bulls are looking ahead to what could be their worst Super Rugby season ever, while the Sharks
buoyed by Jake White as their new coach are fancied to go all the way this season, and who knows, maybe even go on to win it. It is the first game of the season though, and that is why a complete blowout is not something I am expecting, however I still think Sharks will get a pretty decent, stress free win this weekend.

Prediction: Sharks by 11
