CLT20 Preview/Predictions

The 2013 edition of the Champions League T20 is underway, and while it might not be held in the same regard as the IPL or T20 World Cup, it is a chance for the lesser known teams, and the players in them to make an impact, and an impression on all IPL owners as the auction for IPL 7 approaches.

Taking a look at the two groups, it will be rather astonishing if we don’t get at least one of the IPL sides from each pool going through.

Group A:

Rajasthan Royals (Ind)
Highveld Lions (SA)
Otago Volts (NZ)
Perth Scorchers (Aus)
Mumbai Indians (Ind)

Looking at group A, it will be tough to look past the Royals with their amazing record at home, and after their comfortable victory over the Mumbai Indians, I see them topping the group, 2nd place isn’t as clear cut, you have the Volts who won all their matches in the qualifying stage, Scorchers who are a quality Australian outfit, Lions who are South Africa’s T20 champions, and The Mumbai Indians who after losing their opening match, I think might struggle, and I just don’t see them getting to the semis without Malinga. If I had to choose, I would probably go with the Scorchers to finish 2nd. They have vast amounts of experience, and I think that will prove to be a big advantage on a stage like this.

Group B:

Trinidad & Tobago
Chennai Super Kings
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Brisbane Heat

I am going to rule out Brisbane heat straight away, as I feel they have been hit too big a blow with the players they don’t have for this competition, and I can’t see this current group being able to trouble the likes of CSK or SH. Chennai are my picks to finish top, and isn’t it obvious why, stars wherever you look, it appears as if they do not have a weak spot, and I got go against a side with that much quality. Again 2nd place is a much trickier call, but I again cannot look past the other IPL side, the Sunrisers. They are playing in India, and with their ferocious bowling attack that includes Dale Steyn, I feel they will be too big of a handful for the other teams.

So those are my predictions for this years tournament, disagree? Let me know who you think will make the semis in the comment section.
