South Africa will witness courageous 28-year-old athlete, Edeline Mutize’s attempt to run the Comrades Marathon 2013 twice, back to back, as part of her campaign “Mission Possible”. This campaign aims to raise funds for Newkidz on the Block and to promote the organisation’s vision of creating awareness and support of orphans and the vulnerable and destitute children of South Africa.
Edeline is a volunteer and fundraising activist for Newkidz on the Block. The Comrades Marathon is one of her many efforts to make a difference and bring awareness to the children of South Africa. She recently completed the Two Oceans Marathon, twice, in support for Newkidz on the Block.
Newkidz on the Block is an organisation that is passionate about helping and supporting orphans in local communities by doing extreme makeovers of children’s homes, shelters for abused women and early childhood development centres where they promote fostering and adoption.
On the 1st of June, the night before the official Comrades Marathon race, Edeline will set off from Pietermaritzburg for the first leg of a double Comrades in 24 hours. Upon arrival in Durban on the morning of the 2nd of June, Edeline will join the close to 20 000 athletes as they take on the official Comrades race.
The adults of tomorrow need our help today. Do your bit like Edeline and make a difference for the kids, no matter how small – it will play a significant role.
