Kings dethroned by the Cheetahs

Willie le Roux was a constant threat for the Kings throughout the 80 minutes, as the Cheetahs came out comfortable winners in the end after a tight first half against the Southern Kings at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

Johann Sadie scored at the end of the 1st half when le Roux unlocked the Kings defence to send his teammate over for the try to give the Cheetahs a 1 point lead at half-time. Later in the match Sadie then returned the favour by doing all the work before passing to le Roux who scored the try as the Cheetahs started to pull away.

The kicking game was a tight contest throughout, with Catrakilis, who you could see was beaming with confidence after his selection into the springbok squad, and Elgar Watts as both had no trouble slotting over penalty after penalty from all areas of the field.

The Cheetahs had to work hard for their victory, but their relentless attack eventually became too much for the Kings and in the end the pressure told, as the Cheetahs ran home for a few easy tries.

The Kings did finish well though, when scrumhalf Nicholas Vergallo scored in the dying seconds of the game to end the match on a positive note for the Kings.

In the end though, the Cheetahs were the better team, and they deserved the 5 point win that puts them in a great position to make the playoffs.
