The British & Irish Lions play their final warm up match before the first test against New Zealand when they take on Super Rugby side the Chiefs at FMG Stadium in Waikato on Tuesday.

The Chiefs have played 7 Super Rugby matches at home this season winning 6 with their only defeat to the table topping Crusaders.  There has been an average of 56 points in all of the Chiefs home games with an average of just under 7 tries per match.  The Chiefs are missing a number of their regular players due to International commitments and this match will be an opportunity for some of the younger squad members to put their hands up.

The Lions continued their improvement with an impressive 32-10 win over the New Zealand Maori on the weekend.  Not surprisingly there is a very different team that will take to the field in this game and it is unlikely that any of these players will be in the starting line-up for the first test against New Zealand on the weekend.  That being said there are perhaps bench places up for grabs so motivation will be high. The Lions will also be keen to build momentum heading into the test series and they won’t be under-estimating their Super Rugby opponents having already lost to the Blues and the Highlanders on tour.

Betting

Chiefs 16/10

Draw 22/1

British & Irish Lions 11/20

Handicap

Chiefs +4.5 at 9/10

British & Irish Lions -4.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, British & Irish Lions -4.5 at 9/10

Neither of these sides is at full strength but the Chiefs look particularly vulnerable and I am betting the Lions to win this game by 5 points or more and in so doing build further anticipation ahead of Saturday’s first test.
