South Africa and France meet in the second of 3 tests in Durban on Saturday and we take a look at the game from a betting perspective.

The Springboks relieved some of the pressure on the coaching team and players with a convincing 37-14 victory over the French in Pretoria last weekend.  While it was an impressive performance the winning margin perhaps makes the game look a little bit more comfortable than it was and at one stage in the second half France pulled to within a couple of points of the hosts.

The Springboks will be without injured Jesse Kriel this weekend and they will be looking to improve on a poor recent record in Durban which has seen them beaten by both the All Blacks and Argentina in Rugby Championship matches in the last 2 years.

France would have been disappointed as to how they faded out of contention last weekend but they do welcome back some of the players who missed the game due to their participation in the Top 14 final and they certainly showed enough at Loftus to suggest they can trouble the Boks.  France have not played in Durban since 2005 when they drew 30-30 with the Springboks and amazingly 3 of their 6 matches in Durban dating back to 1967 have finished in draws.

Betting

South Africa 1/3

Draw 28/1

France 5/2

Handicap

South Africa -8.5 at 9/10

France +8.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Half-time result, France +4.5 points at 9/10.

I am expecting the French to come out firing and I think they will be better suited to conditions in Durban than they were in Pretoria.  The Springboks may well have enough to pull away and win in the second half but I think we are going to see a very tight game heading into the break.
