England v Pakistan

England won all 3 of their group matches to comfortably progress to the semi-finals.  They opened with an 8 wicket victory over Bangladesh and then comfortably saw off New Zealand by 87 runs.  Their final group match was against Australia, a side that needed to win to survive, but England restricted them to 277 for 9 in 50 overs and after rain saw play abandoned England were declared the winners by 40 runs according to the Duckworth Lewis method.  For England Stokes, Root, Morgan and Hales have all scored a 150 runs or more with the bat and Plunkett, Rashid and Wood have taken the bulk of the wickets.

Things didn’t look good for Pakistan after their opening 124 run defeat to India at the hands of the Duckworth Lewis method.  They bounced back though with another Duckworth Lewis match this time ending in a 19 run Pakistan victory over South Africa and in what was effectively a quarter-final they chased down 237 to win against Sri Lanka on Monday.  In contrast to England not one of their batsmen has reached 100 runs in the tournament yet and on the bowling front Ali and Khan have stood out with 7 and 5 wickets respectively.

Suggested Bet: Top England Bat – Joe Root at 5/2

Root has been in excellent form and he is a man for the big occasion. In a one sided betting heat he looks worth an interest to star with the bat again.
