Sri Lanka and Pakistan meet in the final group B match of the ICC Champions Trophy at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Monday. The winner of the match will progress to the semi-finals.
Sri Lanka opened their campaign with a 96 run loss to the Proteas but they bounced back from that by causing a massive upset when they chased down 322 runs to beat India in their second game. Sri Lanka won the toss and sent India in to bat, a move that appeared to have backfired when the Indians scored 321 for 6 off 50 overs. There was little in the way of success for the bowlers and Malinga got the most wickets with 2 but he did go for 7 an over. After losing an early wicket in the chase Sri Lanka settled into their rhythm and knocked off the runs with 7 wickets and 8 balls remaining. Gunathilaka scored 76 and Mendis 89 with captain Mathews also weighing in with an unbeaten 52.
Like Sri Lanka, Pakistan also opened with a big loss going down by 124 runs to India in a rain shortened match. The rain was once again to play a role in Pakistan’s second game against the Proteas when Pakistan won by 19 runs according to Duckworth Lewis. South Africa had won the toss and batted first and they battled from the start eventually reaching 219 for 8. The majority of the Pakistan bowlers were excellent and Ali got 3 for 24 in 8 overs and Wasim was also very economical getting 2 for 20 in 8 overs. The game was abandoned with Pakistan on 119 for 3 after 27 overs comfortably within the target they required according to Duckworth Lewis.
These sides last met in July 2015 in Sri Lanka with Pakistan winning 3 times and Sri Lanka twice.

There doesn’t look like there is much between these sides and I was very impressed with Sri Lanka in their victory over India and I am quite pleased that the bookmakers have priced them as the slight underdogs here
