India vs South Africa, Preview & Prediction

India take on South Africa in an ICC Champions Trophy Group B match at The Oval on Sunday.  This group is extremely competitive with all 4 teams on 2 points and the sides can treat this game as a quarter-final.

India opened their account with a comfortable victory over Pakistan by 124 runs using the Duckworth Lewis method but they were then stunned by Sri Lanka in their next match.  Batting first they scored what appeared to be a match winning 321 for 6 in their 50 overs with opener Dhawan scoring 125 at virtually a run a ball.  Keeper Dhoni also weighed in with a quick fire 63 towards the end of the innings.

The Sri Lankans had other ideas though and they chased the total down with 7 wickets in hand and 8 balls to spare.  The Indian bowlers were put to the sword and with two runouts in the innings they only managed 1 wicket between them in the 48.4 overs.

South Africa’s opening match was a comfortable 96 run win over Sri Lanka but they then came out and fluffed their lines badly against a Pakistan side they were expected to beat easily.  Batting first they could only score 219 for 8 in their 50 overs with David Miller holding the innings together with an unbeaten 75 off 104 balls.  Rain intervened and when the match was called off Pakistan were 119 for 3 after 27 overs enough to win by 19 runs according to the Duckworth Lewis method.  Morne Morkel stood out with the ball taking 3 wickets for 18 in 7 overs.

These sides last met 5 times in India in October 2015 with South Africa winning 3 matches and India 2.

Suggested Bet: Top South African batsman, Amla at 33/10.

I expect Amla to anchor the innings as the likes of De Villiers and de Kock bat around him and while he let me down in the last match he did deliver in the opener and I am keen to back him again at what looks a generous price.
