Jelena Ostapenko vs Simona Halep, Preview & Prediction

We are down to the last 2 players at Roland Garros in Paris and the Women’s Final takes place on Saturday.

Jelena Ostapenko vs Simona Halep

Jelena Ostapenko who is unseeded had the best birthday gift she could have hoped for in the semi-finals when she defeated the 30th seed Timea Bacsinszky in 3 sets, 7-6 (4), 3-6 and 6-3 to reach her maiden Grand Slam final.  Ostapenko becomes the first Latvian woman to reach a Grand Slam final in the Open Era.  If she wins the final she would become the 1st player since Gustavo Kuerten to win their first title of any sort at a Grand Slam.  Kuerten won it in 1997 on the day Ostapenko was born.

Ostapenko will now face the 3rd seed Simona Halep who advanced to the last 2 with a 3 sets victory over Karolina Pliskova the 2nd seed, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3. Halep was in the final at Roland Garros 3 years ago when she was beaten by Maria Sharapova and this year she will be looking to win her 1st Grand Slam and with it the World No. 1 ranking.  She has only lost 2 sets on her route to the final.

These ladies will meet for the 1st time on the WTA Tour.

Jelena Ostapenko 5/2

Simona Halep 2/7

Suggested Bet: Ostapenko win at 5/2

Ostapenko can take advantage of the fact that there is more pressure on her opponent. She is playing excellent tennis and something about the way she has progressed just as me feeling that she is going to cause an upset in the final.
