Golden State Warriors v San Antonio Spurs, 05/14/17 Preview & Prediction

San Antonio @ Golden State

Tip: Golden State -10 (1.95)
The Wolf wants to by-pass Game 6 between the Spurs and Rockets as it was a complete non-event! To end what was a spectacular season in that fashion will make it a very long summer for Harden and co but for the Spurs, the flawless performance means that Kawhi Leonard will be ready to go after almost 5 days rest. In terms of being ready and prepared there is no comparison between the two sides with the Warriors having a full week off to prepare for this series after sweeps of the Blazers and Jazz. The stats surrounding the Warriors postseason are scary to say the least. They are averaging 115ppg and allowing less than 100 with an average winning margin of 16.5ppg. Seven of their eight wins have come via a double digit margin and in a staggering statistic they have led by 20+ for more time than they have been trailing.

They met three times during the season but there is nothing significant we can take out of those games – two of which were won by the Spurs. San Antonio won the season opener in a blowout and also won the second meeting in which all of the Warriors regular starters were rested. Golden State bounced back by winning the final matchup but that came less than 48 hours after the Spurs have put everything into beating the Cavs. They say styles make fights and this is no exception. What we have come to know is that coach Popovich is the master of making adjustments, as was clearly the case against Houston. They were able to limit Harden’s effectiveness, shut down the paint and make Houston take an array of difficult shots.

Can they do the same against Golden State… NO! They face several additional challenges against the Warriors. Firstly, the Warriors play defence – just as good as the Spurs, if not better. Secondly they have more than one primary scoring option with Steph, Klay, Durant and even Draymond able to turn it on at any time. Then there is the Warriors bench – one of the best in the league and the fact that Golden State can match San Antonio in terms of size with Green, Zaza and McGee.

San Antonio will improve as this series progresses as coach Pop will weave his magic but in the series opener The Wolf is expecting one way traffic. The Spurs are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 when on 2 days rest while the Warriors have been on a roll going 17-5-1 ATS in their last 23. The Warriors are also 13-2-1 in their last 16 when their opponents scored 100+ points in their previous game with the Under going 13-6 in the last 19 meetings. Wolfy is expecting a huge series from Kevin Durant and will be shocked if we go beyond 6 games in the series. The Warriors juggernaut will be on full display!
