Wells Fargo Championship 2017, Preview & Prediction

The Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, North Carolina plays host to the Wells Fargo Championship which starts on the 4th of May.

The Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina usually hosts this event but the course will be hosting the PGA Championship in August and so we have a new venue this year. A par 72 layout, Eagle Point should favour the longer hitters and wind could also be a factor. A fairly strong field has been assembled with world number 1 Dustin Johnson making his 1st start since having to withdraw from the Masters with injury.

Past Winners

2016 – James Hahn -9*

2015 – Rory McIlroy -21

2014 – J.B Holmes -14

2013 – Derek Ernst -8*

2012 – Rickie Fowler -14*

Johnson 5/1

Rahm 12/1

Scott 20/1

Casey 22/1

Kisner 25/1

Mickelson 28/1

35/1 and better the balance, prices correct at the time of writing but subject to change

Jon Rahm – each way at 12/1

This will be his 1st start since the Masters where he faded to finish T27. Prior to that he had 3 top 5’s and a top 10 in 4 appearances and he should take to this course with his length off the tee.

Kevin Kisner at 25/1 – each way

Kisner is one of the form players on tour and in last week’s Zurich Classic him and his partner Brown forced a playoff which they eventually lost. That was his 2nd runner-up finish of the season and he looks ready to go one better.

Cameron Smith at 50/1 – each way

The Aussie won last week’s event together with partner Jonas Blixt. His form has been progressive and he looks decent value in a field that is perhaps a bit top heavy and a bit short on depth.
