The PGA tour continues with The Valero Texas Open which will be played at The Oaks Course in San Antonio, Texas.
The TPC San Antonio is a tree lined par 72 layout. There is plenty of trouble waiting for errant tee shots and the course is a stern test of golf which tends to favour the bigger hitters. Matt Kuchar heads the betting but the 18/1 available at the time of writing gives an indication as to just how open this event is.
2016 Charley Hoffman -12
2015 Jimmy Walker -11
2014 Steven Bowditch -8
2013 Martin Laird -14
2012 Ben Curtis -9
2011 Brendan Steele -8
Matt Kuchar 18/1
Jimmy Walker 20/1
Brooks Koepka 22/1
Charley Hoffman 22/1
Branden Grace 22/1
Ryan Moore 25/1
Brendan Steele 25/1
Kevin Chappell 28/1
Adam Hadwin 30/1
33/1 and better the balance, odds correct at time of posting but subject to change
Ryan Moore at 25/1 – each way
Moore makes his first start since his top 10 at the Masters where he just couldn’t get things going in the final round. He has not played here since 2012 when he finished in the top 10.
Brooks Koepka at 22/1 – each way
The big hitter showed signs of returning to form at the US Masters where he ended up T11. He doesn’t have much course form to speak of but that Masters result could be the catalyst for a run a few titles.
Billy Horschel at 33/1 – each way
Horschel has gone walkabout of late but his course form is impossible to ignore with 3 top 5’s in his last 4 starts here. He has been expensive to follow but is a man I always thought would win a major and I am prepared to give him a shot at redemption this week.
Daniel Summerhays at 75/1 – each way
I am basing this selection purely on course form as he is battling to get results at the moment. He has finished in the top 15 here is his last 4 starts with a pair of top 5’s amongst them.
