New Zealand v South Africa, 1st ODI Preview & Prediction

South Africa made a winning start to their tour of New Zealand with a comprehensive win in the T20 on Friday and the teams now head to Hamilton on Sunday for the first of five one day internationals.

The betting for the one off T20 international staged in Auckland on Friday suggested we would be in for a close game but that didn’t prove to be the case as the Proteas coasted victory by 78 runs. Batting first South Africa posted 185/6 with Amla 62 and du Plessis 36 the main contributors. On a high scoring ground that total was considered somewhere around par but the Proteas bowlers Morris and Phehlukwayo  were quickly into the New Zealand top order and Imran Tahir cleaned up with Man of the Match figures of 5/24 in his 3.5 overs.

Given they have whitewashed Australia and Sri Lanka 5-0 the Proteas could hardly be in better shape but New Zealand also boast useful recent form and they have won at home to Bangladesh (3-0) and Australia (2-0) earlier in 2017

Recent Head to Head

Overall 65 meetings have produced 22 wins for New Zealand 38 for South Africa and 5 no results.

On New Zealand soil 22 meetings have produced 10 wins for the Black Caps, 9 for the Proteas and 3 no results.

The most recent series was staged in South Africa in August 2015 and the Proteas won it 2-1. Last time the teams met in New Zealand the Black Caps edged a thrilling World Cup semi final by 4 wickets (D/L)

Match Result

New Zealand 13/10

South Africa 6/10

Bet: South Africa to win at 6/10

It’s hard to argue with the Proteas one day side right now and we fancy they can draw first blood in the five match series.
