Currie Cup Head Coach, David Maidza, said Siyabonga “Tiger” Mangweni would once again captain the side as Darron Nell had still not quite recovered from his ankle injury.
Maidza confirmed that Nicolas Vergallo was leaving to play for French Club, Lyon. The Argentine’s place in the team has been taken by talented Kayle van Zyl, who has been utilised by the Kings in several backline positions this season.
It was also confirmed today that Cornell Du Preez had been released with immediate effect, to take up a position with Edenburgh Rugby, in Scotland .
“Du Preez had already committed to play for Edinburgh Rugby from the 1st of November, when his contract with EP Kings expired, but an agreement has been reached between ourselves and their club management for his early release,” said EPRU President, Cheeky Watson.
Watson said he was excited that Du Preez had been given this opportunity, and wished him everything of the best as he furthered his rugby career.
Watson also wished Nicolas Vergallo well with his new contract with Lyon in France. “I know that Vergallo has strong aspirations to play international rugby for the Pumas. Many of his former team mates from Argentina play in the French and European competitions, and the move to Lyon was therefore a sensible option in lieu of him wanting to again represent his country,” he said
With Du Preez early release, he will no longer be representing the EP Kings against the Valke, Devin Oosthuizen, who was originally named on the bench for this week, comes up from to 7, Tim Agaba who was named to start at 7 this week, moves to 8, and Kuselo Moyake comes up to the bench.
EP Kings captain, Tiger Mangweni said that they were ready to tackle the Valke, and were expecting a good game on Friday. “At this point in the competition, we cannot take anything for granted. We have prepared as if we were playing one of the top sides in the competition and we are looking forward to the game,” he said
With reserved seating we occasionally find that other spectators don’t occupy their correct seats, we have therefore created a number for our season ticket holders’ convenience that one can text for assistance in this regard. The number is 083 204 5056 and one can also view this number at the stadium on the advertising boards on the top level behind the poles, in the North West and South East corners.
