Luke Wright who was making his debut for Pune got given the task of bowling the last over, and it proved to be a wrong decision as he was dispatched for 6 twice in the over by David Miller who secured his team the victory with a ball to spare.
Miller ended on 80 not-out from just 41 balls, and it was his unbroken 128 run partnership with Mandeep Singh that proved to be a match winning one with Kings XI Punjab in search of 186 that Pune set them earlier thanks to a 10 ball 34 from Luke Wright at the back-end of the innings.
At the change in innings Pune Warriors captain Aaron Finch who played well for his score of 64 would have been very confident in defending the score they achieved knowing that no-one in Kings XI Punjab had even scored a 50 yet in the competition.
Pune were in a great position before Miller and Singh stepped to the crease, they dismissed Gilchrist for 4, and Mahmood for a duck in the first 7 balls of the match.
From then on, it was only Yuvraj Singh (1-15) who exerted any sort of pressure on the batting pair, and he still had an over left, so maybe should have been given the ball for the final over rather than Wright.
When the last over began, it was looking good for Pune, only conceding 2 runs off the 1st two deliveries, but Miller was quick to change that as he dispatched 2 balls over the ropes to hand the Kings XI their third win.
