Super Rugby Round 4 Preview

My thoughts and predictions on this weekends Super Rugby action.

Hurricanes vs Crusadersdaggwrap-1200

Both teams without a win going into Round 4 and to be honest if you’ve watched their matches you would know why. Neither team seems to have made it out of first gear yet this season, so the question to be asked is which side would get things right first? The answer for me, the Crusaders. Their team this week looks a more solid XV and they will be rearing to go after a disappointing performance last week how ever you look at it, especially with the standards the Saders have set themselves in the past. The Hurricanes haven’t showed any signs of being able to pull off a win this weekend, and I’m going with an early call that the Canes will take home the wooden spoon in the NZ conference this season.

Prediction: Crusaders by 9

Rebels vs RedsSuper+Rugby+Rd+16+Rebels+v+Reds+5Ir41xMP55fl

You get the feeling a Rebels win is coming, they’ve been close every game only to lose it in the last 20. I don’t however think that, that win will be this week. The Reds have momentum after their wins over both the Tahs and the Canes, and the gap in quality between the two sides just seems too much for the Rebels to overcome. Won’t be surprised if Rebels lead for most of the match again though.

Prediction: Reds by 11

Highlanders vs CheetahsCheetahsvsHurricanes2011pic2bg

Cheetahs were bullied by the Chiefs last week, and I see more of the same ahead for them this week against the Highlanders. The Dunedin based side playing in front of their home support will prove to be an obstacle too difficult for the men from SA to overcome.

Prediction: Highlanders by 32

Brumbies vs Waratahs

art_Drew%20Mitchell-420x0 If Waratahs can play a full 80 minutes like they have finished so far this season then they could beat any of the Aussie sides, but I can’t see it happening against this Brumbies side who possess a lot of confidence and know how to play winning rugga, not to mention they are at home for this clash. All in all this looks like its going to be another boring Aussie derby with the Brumbies coming away with the win.

Prediction: Brumbies by 8

Stormers vs ChiefsBullsvStormers2012May

Toughest pick of the weekend. Stormers have made it hard to back them with their performances so far this season, while Chiefs have made it hard not to back them with their performances this season. So its a “I want to pick Stormers, but I can’t look past the Chiefs” situation.

Prediction: Chiefs by 1

Southern Kings vs SharksSuper+Rugby+Rd+2+Kings+v+Force+NlFBV_G-becl

My heart says Southern Kings but I know it isn’t going to happen. Their fairytale win against Force a couple of weeks ago will be all but a memory when Sharks are finished with them. I can’t bare to say anymore.

Prediction: Sharks by 17

Blues vs Bulls rene_ranger_photo_by_nzpa_1246206808

Blues have looked lethal so far, and have proven that they are back and mean business this season. Bulls are notorious strugglers on tour, and with their narrow win against Force will be down on confidence, and no doubt the fact its their first game on tour won’t make it any easier either. All of this adds up to one thing and one thing only, Pink Bulls to be humiliated by the hands of the Blues in Auckland.

Prediction: Blues by 27
