Rant about the Proteas ODI performances vs New Zealand

I never thought I’d be writing this. A Blackcaps squad without their most influential player in Ross Taylor, a number of debutants into the squad, problems off and on the field, and coming from a humiliating Test series defeat from the hands of the same opponent they have absolutely nailed in the ODI series.

Its pathetic really, going into the series the Proteas were the number 1 ODI team in the world. NZ the 9th best team. Yet after 2 matches they found themselves 2-0 down with the series lost and with 1 game to go, the possibility of a whitewash.

Out of all the great NZ squads of the past, its this one that wins the first ever series in SA.. Really?! To be fair its been more us playing terribly than them playing superbly.

If you take a look and examine the two matches, SA were in control of both of them at one stage, and then, as always, when the pressure started building, the Proteas started folding like a deck of cards. SA had no right to lose that 2nd ODI, it was in the bag, but then what happens, a sight seen too often by a SA fan, they choke.

SA drop to 5th in the ODI rankings after that loss and quite frankly that isn’t low enough in my opinion, we have been terrible in one day cricket, and the worst thing of it all is, is that we have no reason to be, none. We just seem unmotivated, uninterested, and a side that just doesn’t seem as polished as when they don the white clothing.

We might as well send one of our KFC mini cricket teams to the Champions trophy later this year, at least they won’t be badly affected by ‘big match temperament’ like the Proteas are.

Oh and if you are wondering how to throw away a cricket game, watch SA play when you get the chance, they’ll show you.

Rant over.
